Global Climage Change
The United States should be leading international efforts to address global climate change, working to update and build support for treaties, benchmarks and solutions to this potential global cataclysm. The commitment to discovery and implementation of new technology to solve this global problem could set the United States' economy back on its feet, providing high quality jobs and nationwide prosperity. It could help to restore America's moral authority in the world.
To show commitment to curbing our dependence on carbon based fuels, the federal government, should undertake the equivalent of the Rural Electrification Act of 1936, to build the transmission infrastructure needed to carry new energy created by alternative sources in rural areas to the power grid throughout this country. In my district in Northern California, landowners wishing to harness wind energy have no way to get energy created on their land to the grid where it can be purchased and distributed. With support and incentives from the federal government the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of this country can identify and create the new technology. It is the federal government's job to create the infrastructure to get this new energy where it is needed.
